Keiko Kitagawa (北川景子, Kitagawa Keiko?) is a Japanese actress and former model. She was an exclusive model for the Japanese Seventeen magazine from late 2003 to mid 2006, and left modeling when she left the magazine. Her first acting role was Sailor Mars in the Sailor Moon live action show Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (2003-4), and since that time she has appeared primarily in films, including The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and Dear Friends (2007).

Life

Kitagawa was born on August 22, 1986 in Hyogo prefecture, Japan. She grew up in Kobe, and lost many friends in the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995.

As a young child Keiko was often sickly and spent a lot of time in the hospital, and at this time wanted to become a doctor. However, in 2003, her initial dream took a backseat when she auditioned for and won the title of Miss Seventeen 2003, a competition in affiliate with Seventeen Magazine in Japan. The winner of the competition is drafted into the modeling fold of that company. That same year she auditioned for and landed the role of Sailor Mars/ Rei Hino in the live action version of the popular manga/anime, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. Meanwhile, as the newest model for Seventeen, Keiko was steadily becoming a top model as they featured her in commercials for their affiliation with East Boy (a popular Japanese school uniform clothing line). She appeared on the cover numerous times and even had her own section of the magazine called, "Keiko's Beauty Honey." Keiko graduated from Seventeen Magazine in the September 15, 2006 issue, ending her contract with them after three years of modeling.

Keiko has continued working as an actress, her lead role in Dear Friends bringing her much more attention than in the past. She is also continuing her studies, majoring in commercial science at a university in Tokyo.

She moved to Tokyo when she started working as an actress and model, and has lived there since. She traveled to California for the filming of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and returned there to study English for a couple of months early in 2006.

She describes herself as a stay-at-home person, and likes watching DVDs, listening to music, and reading books. She also likes swimming, particularly backstroke.

She has appeared in the films Mizu ni Sumu Hana (2006), Mamiya Kyōdai (2006), The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Cherry Pie (2006), and Dear Friends (2007). She will appear in the films Heat Island (2007), and Sono Toki ha Kare ni Yoroshiku (2007).
