Gabriel Soto Borja-Diaz (born April 17, 1975 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal) is a Mexican actor, model. He is known for winning the national male pageant El Modelo Mexico, being a member of the former Mexican boy band Kairo, and for acting in countless telenovelas.
Soto's childhood was affected with some unfortunate events: His mother committed suicide and his father Francisco Soto Borja Anda, has been involved in several illicit business. Growing up, Soto went to Edron Academy, hoping someday to study at Harvard University. After finishing up at Edron, Soto received a chance to study economic at Harvard. Soto though, changed his mind on economics and decided to dedicate himself to modeling. While modeling, he worked for the top names such as Hugo Boss, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, and many others.
Seeing that he was a great model, Soto decided to enter a pageant in 1996. He won the national male pageant El Modelo Mexico and represented his country in Mister World the same year, where he placed first runner-up. After the competition, in 1997 Soto starting his acting career on the telenovela Mi Querida Isabel.
After the telenovela ended, Soto received a chance to be on of the members of the boy band Kairo. He replaced original member, Eduardo Verástegui, who wanted to focus on his acting career. While the two other original members, Jean Paul Forat Morales and Francisco Carlos Zorrilla González were replaced by ex-Tierra Cero group member, Paulo César Quevedo de la Vega and Roberto Assad Martínez respectively. This made the group Kairo completely new because all the original members were replaced. The Kairo group with Soto released the album Pasiones in 1998. The group was greatly successful in Latin America.
After being exposed to the world as a singer, Soto's image was wanted to be seen by the public more. So he began to model for major companies such as Trident Gum, Air Toner products, Kazzan And Terra catalogue, and many others. He also appeared on many magazine covers such as Men's Health and People En Español. Soto has recently been the new face of Definite and NeoSkin products.
In 1999, Soto began to resume his acting career in many telenovelas such as Mujer De Madera and Las Vías Del Amor. Recently, Soto appeared in the telenovela La Verdad Oculta. In 2005, Soto was a contestant on the popular Spanish show Bailando Por Un Sueño. He came far in the competition with his partner, but did not win.
Soto represented "Ducati Mexico" at Italy during a Motorcycle rally. He drove his motorcycle around Italy with many other representing their countries.
