Anne-Marie Duff (born 8 October 1970, Southall, London) is an English actress.
She studied acting at The Drama Centre, part of the University of the Arts London. In 2000 she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award, but is primarily known as "Fiona" in the television programme Shameless, and for her portrayal of Elizabeth I of England in the lavish 2005 BBC television miniseries, The Virgin Queen. She also starred in the 2002 film The Magdalene Sisters, and as Louisa Lennox, one of the daughters of the Duke of Richmond, on the BBC miniseries "The Aristocrats."
She will next appear in a production of The Soldier's Fortune at the Young Vic, before starring in Saint Joan at the Royal National Theatre.
Personal Life
Duff was born and raised in London by Irish parents. She is married to her Shameless co-star, actor James McAvoy, and had previously dated Doctor Who actor David Tennant
Shameless
Duff starred as one of six siblings of the Gallagher clan, a working class family living on a council estate in Manchester. Her character "Fiona" was known as the replacement mother, being the eldest child she naturally took on the duty of caring for her brothers and sister due to the disappearence of the biological mother. Duff met her real-life future husband James McAvoy during filming of series one of the show and the couple left the drama during series two.
